The governor of Campeche, Layda Elena Sansores San Román, handed over the appointment as the new secretary of government to Elisa María Hernández Romero, who previously held the position of Secretary of Welfare and was in charge of state social programs.

Who is Elisa María Hernández?
Liz Hernández, as she is known, is the granddaughter of the former governor of Campeche Benjamín Romero Esquivel.

She was a local representative by the plurinominal route, a position she left to assume the position of Secretary of Welfare.

She is also part of the group that supported Governor Layda Sansores in the civil resistance movement of 1997 when she lost for the first time to PRI member Antonio González Curi.

On April 15, 2022, Elisa Hernández led a group of Morena militants who attacked the state building of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).

During this event, they vandalized the facilities as a pressure measure on the federal legislators of that political party to approve in the Congress of the Union the initiative of constitutional reform in the matter of the electric industry, proposed by the then president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

For these events, Hernández Romero was reported to the Campeche Prosecutor’s Office for breaking and damaging private property, but in the end, she was absolved of all charges.
