Six fishermen were rescued by the Navy (Semar) in two separate operations after their boats capsized due to the strong winds and waves caused by cold front number 24.

Fishermen rescued off the coast of Yucatán

Four fishermen were rescued in the Yucatán Sea after their boat sank five nautical miles northwest of Isla Pérez. The boat had partially sunk and was stuck near Arrecife Alacranes.

One crew member swam against the current to a boat called ‘Cherna’ to seek help. Sailors arrived at the sinking site in a speedboat and found three fishermen shipwrecked near Isla Desterrada.

They later rescued the crew member who had swum to another boat. The four fishermen were taken to the naval base in Puerto Progreso, where doctors treated them and ruled out life-threatening injuries. Navigation for smaller boats has been closed due to recent cold fronts.

Fishermen rescued off the coast of Campeche

In a separate incident, Navy personnel rescued two fishermen on the shore of Punto Cedro, near Balchacah, within Laguna de Términos. Their boat had capsized due to the strong winds and waves from cold front number 24.

Relatives reported the delay in the boat’s arrival, prompting the maritime community to alert the Harbor Master’s Office. A Defender-type boat with search and rescue personnel located two of the three men near Balchacah.

The third crew member had already been assisted by another fishing boat and was transferred in good health to Isla Aguada, Carmen. The two rescued fishermen received medical attention in the Naval Sector of Ciudad del Carmen and were reunited with their healthy relatives.

The sector urged the community to heed storm warnings and apply maritime safety measures before setting sail, especially during cold front number 24.
