In the first half of January, Quintana Roo Nautical Associates (ANQ) will file an injunction against new taxes established in the 2025 Fiscal Package.
As announced by Francisco Fernández Millán, president of the ANQ, among the measures that worry the sector is the increase in the permit for sport fishing, which will now cost 271 pesos per person, double the current price.
In addition, there is a 100% increase in fees to enter Protected Natural Areas (ANP).
This has generated concern among tourism operators, who consider that these measures could discourage the practice of activities such as sport fishing, a key attraction in the Mexican Caribbean.
Fernández Millán stressed that these increases directly impact the operating costs and competitiveness of Quintana Roo compared to other destinations.
According to data from the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (Conapesca), in 2023, sport fishing generated more than 2 million dollars in annual economic benefits, placing Quintana Roo as the third most benefited state.
The president of the ANQ highlighted that the increase not only affects local operators but also tourists, who will have to assume higher prices to enjoy these activities. The nautical sector seeks that the authorities reconsider these measures, arguing that they could have a negative impact on the local economy and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
