The government of Yucatan will open five new universities in the state to expand the educational offer and prevent young people from having to migrate to other states to develop professionally, said Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena.

The governor pointed out that due to the lack of infrastructure in the state’s schools, Claudia Sheinbaum authorized the program La Escuela es Nuestra to include the local public high schools known as Colegios de Bachilleres.

In this way, these schools will receive at least one million pesos each year to improve the infrastructure and equipment of their classrooms.

“The government that I am honored to lead will immediately join an infrastructure improvement program so that our schools offer a more comfortable and practical infrastructure,” he said while leading the ceremony for the 35th Anniversary of Cobay Xoclán.

With this action, he added, more than 28 thousand higher education students throughout the state will have optimal spaces and adequate tools to prepare for the future.

Where will these new universities be located?

One of the three universities planned to be built in Yucatan will be located in Progreso, a port that will receive large state and federal infrastructure, and will be called the ‘The University of the Sea’, where it is expected to expand maritime and biology studies.

Another one will be located in Umán and will be the University of Health, where students will be able to enroll in the degrees they wish in this same field.

Finally, in Kanasín there will be the Rosario Castellanos University, which will offer courses such as Finance, Law, and Citizen Security, among others.”

Díaz Mena told the students that his government launched the so-called “Mayan Renaissance”, a project that, among other aspects, includes the opening of new universities, the modernization of the Progreso deep-sea port, and the extension of the Maya Train to this Yucatecan Port, to encourage the arrival of more cruise ships and tourism.

Díaz Mena stressed the urgency of young Yucatecans preparing themselves in careers related to Information Technology, Robotics, Semiconductors, and other areas demanded by the current labor market.
