During the 2024 season, the state of Yucatan achieved just over 27 thousand tons of an established goal of 29 thousand, even though a two-week extension was requested for fishing.

A few days after the official end of the octopus season in Yucatan, the initial reports of the National Commission for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) revealed that during the 2024 season, 94 percent of the goal established at the beginning was reached, that is, just over 27 thousand tons of the octopus.

The head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture of Yucatan (Sepasy), Lila Frías Castillo, indicated that the quota established by the federal authorities was about 29 thousand tons, so it was 6 percent below that figure, even though a two-week extension was requested for the capture.

According to the 2024 agri-food panorama, published by the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), in 2023 Yucatan was placed as the state with the highest octopus production in the entire country, with a volume of 18,407 tons.
