On Thursday, January 2, an ATV fell on one of the slopes of the Parque Ecológico del Poniente de Mérida, known as the “Parque Hundido” (Sunken Park). One person was injured in the accident.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning on the northeast side of the park, near the corner of 67th Street and 116th Street in the Yucalpetén neighborhood. The injured person is an elderly man, an employee of the Mérida City Council assigned to the maintenance of the park, who was driving the ATV along one of the sidewalks.

At one point, the ATV driver accidentally put the vehicle in reverse and fell down the slope.

His coworkers and park rangers immediately came to his aid, and later, they requested the support of the state police.

The man suffered serious injuries and probable fractures, so he was transferred to an IMSS hospital aboard an ambulance from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP).

The state police were informed of the incident and proceeded with the corresponding report.
