On January 6th, Three Kings’ Day, this port of Progreso experienced a tourist day with the arrival of the cruise ship “Jewel Of The Seas” from the Royal Caribbean Company.
The ship docked at 6:51 a.m. from Galveston, Texas with 3,200 visitors on board, including 2,345 passengers and 855 crew members.
The cruise ship left at 4 p.m. for Cozumel, Quintana Roo as part of its itinerary in the Caribbean.
Despite a cloudy sky and temperature close to 25 degrees Celsius, tourists enjoyed the amenities that the port offers, such as “banana rides,” services, and the sale of crafts and other products.
The beaches, restaurants, and local craft shops were the main points of interest for visitors, who took advantage to taste Yucatecan cuisine, buy souvenirs, and enjoy the relaxed coastal atmosphere.
The arrival of the “Jewel Of The Seas” marks a dynamic start to tourist activities in the second week of 2025, highlighting the importance of the cruise industry in the local economy.
Merchants and service providers pointed out that although the influx of tourists was regular compared to previous days, the economic spillover is still significant for the community.
Progreso received yesterday the presence of just over 400 cruise passengers, since of the total number of passengers on the ship many had already purchased tours or bought them upon arrival in Progreso to visit other destinations in Yucatan such as Dzibilchaltún, Mérida, and Chichén Itzá, etc.
The cruise day will continue today with the arrival of the “Carnival Breeze”, another important vessel that will contribute to the flow of tourists in the region.
With a capacity similar to that of the “Jewel Of The Seas”, it is expected that tourist activity in Progreso and its surroundings will remain constant.
