Families on 41st Street between 72 and 74, whose properties border the Ciénaga Oriente channel, have a new, dangerous neighbor: a crocodile about 2 meters long.
However, residents of the area point out that they have already become accustomed to living with the saurian, which arrived to claim its space, but does not attack and remains on the edge of the mangrove area, where it spends hours under the sun.
Housewives, including María Candelaria Jiménez, affirm that “the crocodile is enormous; it measures just over two meters. ” The crocodile arrived this year in that part of the swamp and stayed to live among the mangroves.
41st Street separates the swamp from houses of families who keep the space where the crocodile, nicknamed “cat eater,” is clean because it feeds on felines that dare to approach and bother it.
The interviewees commented that an overnight “cat-eater” appeared in the swamp. They saw him emerge from between the swampy area and the mangroves.
At first, they were afraid of his presence, they admitted because they feared that he would enter the houses, eat the animals, or attack a child.
However, it does not advance further than the swamp’s edge, where it stays sunbathing for several hours and does not attack.
The area residents comment that they do not feed the crocodile, but they did notice that the cat population decreased and they have seen how the saurian catches them and then dives into the swamp.
