The mayor of the municipality of Valladolid, Homero Novelo Burgos, announced that there is still no tourist project with the new cenote discovered a few months ago after the collapse of a ceiba tree that was left in the depths of this space.
He indicated that this space is still in the process of review by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and Civil Protection, who continue to evaluate whether this space will remain closed or what actions to follow after the detachment of the platform that It covered the cenote.
“We will be awaiting the report through an investigative opinion by the authorities. This is kept under guard and does not represent any risk to the homes since it is located on a street where several entrances converge, all the surrounding houses are out of danger,” he indicated.
He announced that it is expected that the opinion can be received before Holy Week, that is, in April to subsequently inform the population and that together it is decided what will be done with this space.
“Xocén is a place with many traditions and where the population protects them, the commitment that I have with the commissioner and the sergeants, who are the representatives of the community, is that before making the result public, they will be informed what the investigation opinion of the INAH and jointly, the federal agency, the city council that I head and the residents will decide what to do with this space,” he noted.
He recalled that Xocén is one of the police stations with the most representation and roots of the Mayan culture, where the indigenous theater is and houses the ceremonial center where the Talking Cross is located, worshiped by many people nationwide.
