An 18-year-old boy, identified as Emmanuel A. G. U., originally from the Bojórquez neighborhood, lost his life on Friday, January 17, when he drowned in a cenote located behind the Campus of Social, Economic, Administrative and Human Sciences of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY).

According to preliminary reports, the young man was accompanied by friends, with whom he socialized and spent time. At one point, Emmanuel decided to enter the cenote to swim, but he did not return to the surface, which caused alarm among his companions.

Immediately, support was requested from the emergency number 9-1-1. Agents of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and paramedics went to the site, but unfortunately, they could only confirm the death of the young man.

Later, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office carried out the removal of the body and carried out the corresponding procedures to determine the exact causes of the tragedy.

This unfortunate event once again highlights the importance of taking extreme precautions when visiting bodies of water and the risk they represent, even for young and healthy people. The university community and residents of the area expressed their dismay at the events.
