Two Venezuelan migrants allegedly beat INM Mexican agent to death

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Two Venezuelan men allegedly attacked and killed an immigration agent on Monday in the border state of Chihuahua, Mexico’s National Immigration Institute (INM) said.

INM said the agent was attacked at about 12:30 p.m. at a checkpoint in Samalayuca, which is about 25 miles south of Juarez.

Officials said the agent asked the migrants for identification before being attacked.

The agency did not provide details about the attack. According to the Chihuahua State Police, emergency crews found the agent dead with an injury to the head and other signs of violence.

INM said local, state, and federal authorities arrested three men in connection with the attack about three hours later.

The Chihuahua State Police, however, said only two men were arrested. They were identified as Carlos A. S., 36; and David José V., 29, both of Venezuela. State police released photos of the arrest of the two men.

Chihuahua state police also identified the agent as Luis Alberto Olivas, who worked for INM for 30 years.
