More than a hundred volunteers picked up 164 kilograms of waste on the beaches of Puerto Morelos.
They collected recyclable materials such as cans and bottles along several kilometers of the coast.
To commemorate World Environmental Education Day, which was celebrated on January 26, Delphinus in alliance with Ocean Conservancy Mexico, the Grand Residences hotel, and volunteers from the Las Américas school in Cancun participated in this beach cleanup activity organized by the Quintana Roo Zoological institution specialized in the care of marine mammals.
After 90 minutes of collection, 101 volunteers picked up 164 kilos of general garbage, 29 kilos of recyclables such as aluminum cans and PET bottles, 27 kilograms of glass and 1.5 kilos of microplastics along the 2.5 kilometers of beach traveled, totaling 221.5 kilos of waste.
The waste was delivered to the municipality of Puerto Morelos for final disposal.
With this clean-up, Delphinus has organized 48 events; with the participation of 5,908 volunteers, 20.8 tons of waste have been cleaned off the beaches and mangroves of Quintana Roo.
