Despite abundant rains and a failed campaign to eliminate junk in 2024, Yucatán was positioned as one of the entities with the fewest dengue cases in Mexico.
According to the epidemiological panorama of dengue issued by the Federal Ministry of Health, Yucatán registered 368 confirmed cases, placing it in sixth place with the lowest incidence nationwide, only below entities such as Mexico City and Tlaxcala (0 cases). and Baja California (8 cases).
In the Yucatan Peninsula, the state stood out with the lowest number of confirmed cases. Campeche reported 622 patients, while Quintana Roo registered 1,002, occupying seventh and eighth places nationally, respectively.
A notable aspect was the absence of deaths from dengue in Yucatán during 2024. This marked great progress compared to 2023 when the state reported 15 deaths from this disease.
In comparison, Campeche and Quintana Roo reported three and eight deaths, respectively, contributing to a total of 11 deaths on the peninsula.
In Mexico, 2024 closed with 478 dengue deaths, more than double the 203 reported in 2023. This underlines the importance of the control and prevention strategies implemented in Yucatán, which have proven effective despite the logistical challenges.
