A spectacular road accident occurred on Avenida Colón, when an American driver, apparently distracted and speeding, lost control of his car, went up onto the sidewalk, turned sharply, and ended up crashing into a wooden Telmex post.
The incident occurred at 8th and 10th streets in the García Gineres neighborhood. After the impact, the tourist’s car, a Nissan Sentra from a rental company, was left across the road, blocking a lane. It was at that moment that an elderly man, driving a Nissan Versa, was unable to brake in time and ended up crashing into the back of the Sentra.
Paramedics from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) went to the site to assess both drivers. Fortunately, neither required transfer to the hospital.
However, due to the damage to the public road and the Telmex pole, the case had to be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office to determine responsibilities and agree on the payment of damages.
This accident highlights the importance of caution behind the wheel, especially in busy urban areas, where a simple oversight can trigger a series of legal and economic problems.
