A new lynching attempt was recorded in Yucatán, this time it occurred in Umán, where residents of the Santa Mónica subdivision held and tied up a man who allegedly intended to rob homes.

On January 27, 2005, Ismael Alejandro Abán Canché, “El güero,” 21 years old, was burned alive by residents of Tekit, who took justice into their own hands after the man murdered a woman.

On Thursday night, February 13, on 6-A Street in the Santa Mónica neighborhood of Umán, neighbors heard noises in their patios and the insistent barking of dogs.

When they left to investigate, they observed a person jumping from one roof to another, which generated an alert among the inhabitants.

When the neighbors saw the man on the roofs, they notified other residents and in a matter of minutes they organized themselves and managed to stop him.

With the man in their possession, they took him to the park, where they tied him to a tree and threatened to teach him a lesson.

However, tempers calmed down and they notified the municipal authorities, so Municipal Police arrived, whose officers rescued the subject, who was transferred to the headquarters.

The neighbors pointed out that in recent weeks home robberies have increased, so they have decided to organize to monitor the area and prevent crimes. The Municipal Police will increase surveillance in the subdivision to reinforce security and prevent future incidents.
