For the City Hall of Mérida, it is a priority to address and make visible the needs of women.
María Guadalupe Márez Jaramillo, a determined Yucatecan entrepreneur and mother of three children, took an important step towards success by receiving her first loan from the program “From Woman to Woman”, an initiative of the City Hall of Mérida that seeks to empower women entrepreneurs in the city.
Like María, 46 other women received this support from the municipal government, demonstrating the City Hall’s commitment to gender equality and the economic empowerment of women.
Today, 47 Merida women have the opportunity to transform their reality.
This program, run by the Department of Social Development and the Fight against Poverty, seeks to provide economic opportunities to women entrepreneurs and heads of household, allowing them to access affordable loans and training to strengthen their businesses.
The economic empowerment of women is essential to building a more just and equitable society, hence the City Council is committed to supporting the women of Mérida so that they can achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
Of the 47 loans delivered, 13 correspond to beneficiaries who live in the west of the city, 21 in the south, 5 in the east, 3 in the northwest of the city, 2 in the center, and 3 in rural areas in the north of the city.
The “From Woman to Woman” loan program ranges from one thousand to 20 thousand pesos for women over 18 years of age and housewives who live in Mérida, are self-employed or own a small business and do not receive support from other sources.
