An unexpected visitor walked through the streets of a port in eastern Yucatan: a crocodile was dragged by the rising tide caused by cold front number 28, which has affected the area for more than seven days.

Far from causing fear, the reptile became a cause of astonishment for the inhabitants. Some children even continued playing a few meters from where the animal was, showing the calm with which the community faced the event.

The image of the crocodile quickly went viral on social networks, where Facebook user Ileana Ávila joked about the situation: “The pets have already started to come out,” she commented along with a photograph of the reptile.

This weather phenomenon has caused strong rising tides in the ports of eastern Yucatan. Despite the intensity of the phenomenon, the probability of rain remains low, especially in Merida, where only some isolated drizzles are expected.

Local authorities recommend that the population remain alert for the presence of crocodiles or other wild animals that could be displaced by the floods.

In case of an encounter with a large reptile, any attempt at interaction should be avoided and the incident reported to Civil Protection or the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Yucatan.
