In week 6 of 2025, the municipality of Dzemul became the first red spot for dengue in Yucatán, followed by the southern Akil, while the eastern Espita and Tizimín are the yellow spots, reports the Mexican Ministry of Health (SSA).
Dzemul, is a Yucatecan municipality with a population of 3,622 inhabitants. 3,467 people reside in the town of the same name.
The mayor of Dzemul, José Wilberto Flota Aké, is criticized for his trips abroad (Unites States, Europe, etc), which are known from the photos published on his wife’s social networks.
Dzemul is the homeland of Ivonne Ortega Pacheco, who was the PRI governor of Yucatán from 2007 to 2012 and today is a federal representative for Movimiento Ciudadano (MC).
According to Google Maps, Dzemul is 37 kilometers northeast of the Mérida Periferico. It is the only municipality in Yucatán governed by the political party Movimiento Ciudadano, through the re-elected mayor José Wilberto Flota Aké.
Dzemul currently has the highest number of dengue cases in Yucatán
The SSA specifies that Dzemul became the first dengue epidemic zone in Yucatán, with a confirmed serious case or with warning signs in week 6 (from February 4 to 10) of 2025.
Dzemul replaced Akil, which in week 5 (from January 28 to February 3) debuted as the first red spot and in week 6 fell to second, in both periods with a case of serious dengue or with warning signs, it indicates.
