The “El Corchito” ecological reserve, a sanctuary of mangroves and wildlife, is reinvented with new alternatives for ecological and adventure tourism, to strengthen the presence of Yucatán on the world tourist map.

As part of the plan to modernize and rehabilitate tourist inns promoted by the State Government through the Board of Cultural and Tourist Services Units (Cultur), this emblematic destination expands its recreational offer with activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, and catamaran tours.

Located just 36 kilometers from Mérida, the reserve now offers its visitors renewed experiences of direct contact with nature. In addition, it offers constant promotions, including the loan of paddle board equipment at no cost for a limited time, guaranteeing safety with completely new equipment.

During a tour of the area, considered one of the most important on the Yucatecan coast, tourists can explore the “Ferns,” “Deer,” and “Birds” waterholes, delighting in the beauty of the environment and its biodiversity. On the trails and mangroves, they can see fauna such as raccoons, coatis, and fish, as well as characteristic flora such as cork trees, which give the reserve its name.

Committed to the preservation of the environment, “El Corchito” has solar panels, and spaces for the correct disposal of waste and encourages visitors to keep the site, home to protected species, clean. The reserve opens its doors to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is located on Víctor Manuel Cervera Pacheco Boulevard, in the municipality of Progreso.

With this renovation, “El Corchito” reinforces its role as a key ecotourism destination in the region, offering adventure, conservation, and natural beauty in one place.
