The driver of a pickup truck crashed into a breathalyzer checkpoint on the Mérida Periférico, leaving five people injured, including police officers.

The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that the accident occurred at kilometer 38 of the aforementioned road during the early morning hours of Saturday, February 22.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 4:30 in the morning and required the hospitalization of some of those affected.

Two civilians and three SSP agents were injured when a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a breathalyzer checkpoint on the Mérida Periférico.

Initially, it was reported that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, so he did not stop at the checkpoint, dragging several officers on the spot, and continued his journey until he collided with an SSP patrol car.

The accident left several officers with bruises, so emergency services were requested.

Four ambulances and three firefighter units arrived at the scene, as well as more SSP patrol cars.

At least two of the officers were taken to a hospital, although they did not have serious injuries. The other injured were treated at the scene of the accident.
