The announcement was made through social media because for security reasons they had to temporarily close the archaeological zone of Uxmal, however, the INAH stated that its opening would take place later on today, Tuesday, February 11th, so the site was shut down just for a few hours.
This was due to the fall of a beehive that dispersed bees throughout the area and for the safety of visitors and workers they decided to close their doors for a few hours.
“The security and protection team is working to ensure that there is no risk for visitors,” assured the National Institute of Archaeology and History.
“The archaeological zone will reopen today, once all necessary measures have been taken to guarantee the safety of tourists”, the statement said.
