The head of the Ministry of Culture, Patricia Martín Briceño, announced that the Biblioteca Yucatanense (Yucatan Library) has reaffirmed its identity with the recovery of its name, a symbol of pride for the Yucatecan community. He recalled that this space is the safeguard of the historical memory of the peninsula, housing newspapers from the first publication to the present, as well as the first book published in Yucatán and fundamental documents on the Caste War.

That is why, within the framework of this transformation, open days will be held so that various schools and older adults can learn about the library’s collection, which includes films, photographs, newspapers, and historical books.

“This effort is part of an opening strategy that seeks to demystify the idea that the library is an exclusive space for researchers. Now, anyone can visit it to read newspapers of significant dates in their life or delve deeper into any topic of interest,” said the secretary.

He also announced that new initiatives have been launched such as “The Encounter with the Word”, a cycle of monthly conversations with writers, open to the general public.

“Soon, literary workshops will also be taught, reinforcing the vocation of the library as a living and accessible space for everyone,” he noted.

Finally, he indicated that these events are free to enter and have access to the available material, consolidating this space as a cultural reference, so the community is invited to take ownership of its history and enjoy knowledge in an open-door environment.
