Local legislator says the “Tekit Case” is a sign of the Yucatan system’s fragility

The tragic case of a lynching in Tekit shows the fragility of the security that is so widely praised in Yucatan”, said Roger Torres Peniche, coordinator of the PAN political party in the State Congress.

In addition, he said, this should serve to reflect and work to protect this so-called Great Security System of the Yucatecans,” which is envied in the rest of the country.

“The Tekit lynching must bring a lesson to our society, which has maintained an enormous standard of security, it shows us how fragile it can be, that our envied Security System can also be very weak,” he said.

The PAN coordinator presented the legislative agenda of his party in a press conference on Thursday, January 30th, where he took advantage of the opportunity to address the case of the lynching and two deaths in Tekit.

As we all know, last Monday, January 27th, a young man known as “El Wero” attacked an elderly woman, who lost her life, so angry neighbors lynched him and burned him alive.

Although he did not mention that the mayor of that municipality, José Antonio Sosa Hernández, is a member of the PAN political party, Torres Peniche said that it is a regrettable event.

“Today we see a Yucatán where there are fewer homicides and kidnappings than in the entire country, where its inhabitants feel safer, but we need to work hard to keep it that way,” Torres Peniche said.

The legislator added that we must not forget that everything we have in Yucatan is based on its public security, so we must instill culture in the people here, and make them see that it is the greatest value that the state has.

Roger Torres Peniche concluded by saying, “The case in Tekit “must make us reflect because today in Yucatan we are on an island in a country in turmoil, we sometimes believe that Culiacan is in another world with all its violence, and we hear of murders and drug trafficking in Quintana Roo, we believe that what happens in Campeche is very far away, but do not forget that what divides us from those states is a very thin line.”
