Locals tear down and set fire to a fence that blocked the access to the beaches of Telchac Puerto

Residents of this port were shocked on Tuesday, February 18, when they saw that access to the beach was blocked by a metal fence and padlock, an illegal action that they reported to the authorities without receiving a response.

Given this, the complainants organized that same afternoon to tear down and set fire to the fence that blocked access to a street that leads to the beach.

According to the information, the metal fence would have been installed during the early hours of the morning on 110th Street, with no information yet on who is responsible for this blockade.

The locals requested legal advice since the law guarantees free access to the beaches, so they asked for the intervention of the authorities to prevent this act from being repeated, which unfortunately is not the first to be registered in the port.

This is how access to one of the beaches of Telchac Puerto was observed on the morning of February 18, which led the inhabitants to destroy and set fire to the fence.

As mentioned, it is known that this is not the first time that the owner of a house, generally a foreigner or from another Mexican state, has decided to close the passage of visitors to the beach, considering that the side streets or the stretch in front of the coast are their property.

Therefore, given the recent action, they suspect that the land was allegedly sold with the access road “included”, despite the fact that there is a protection in force since 2022 that protects the use of the street.

Telchac residents ask for the intervention of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) to investigate the blockade.

It should be remembered that the closure of access to public beaches is considered illegal, according to the General Law of National Assets, reformed in 2020, which establishes the right to free access to Mexican beaches.

The people of Telchac Puerto continue to demand a prompt response from the authorities to guarantee that this public access is restored.
