A man was seen hitting a dog with a metal rod in Mérida‘s Azcorra neighborhood.
A man was arrested in the Azcorra neighborhood of Mérida after hitting a dog with a metal rod, causing a wound to its snout.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) announced that the events occurred on February 19, aroud 4 in the afternoon, when the accused hit a canine named “Viejo” with a metal rod.
The attack on the canine, which caused a blunt wound to the nasal region, was observed by two witnesses, one of whom followed the accused while calling 911 for police assistance, so he was arrested and turned over to the public ministry.
Later, the man was presented at the hearing of the Second Control Judge of the First District, based in Mérida, where he was charged with the crime of animal cruelty.
After relying on the law’s extension, the hearing was called to continue on February 26. Before concluding the proceedings, they presented the arguments to support the request for preventive detention as a precautionary measure, which was granted by the judicial authority for the entire duration of the process.
