The mayor of Progreso, Erik Rihani, met with parents of the “Red Azul” association to deliver support for the comprehensive development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The delivery, which included toys and educational materials, took place at the Meteorite Museum, located on Progreso’s Malecón Tradicional.
Rihani reaffirmed his commitment to social inclusion by announcing that the House of Culture will be the new space where children can continue their activities on Thursday afternoons, responding to a request from parents.
This effort is part of the 100xProgreso strategy.
“Red Azul”, an initiative derived from USAER 54, supports approximately 60 families with members diagnosed with ASD, of which 80% are children. The group carries out academic activities at the Carlos Marx secondary school and, with the new space provided by the City Council, will continue to offer awareness talks and training for parents and teachers.
Psychologist César Chan and Professor Carolina Canul thanked the City Council for its support and highlighted the importance of the association’s work in promoting inclusion. Also present were the senior officer, José Elías Góngora, and councilwoman Marytere Bates Hevia.
