The Mérida International Airport has begun preparations to meet the increase in passengers expected during the Carnival and Easter seasons when the flow of travelers increases significantly.
According to Óscar Carrillo, airport administrator, a 10% growth is projected in the number of passengers during these dates, which implies going from 10 thousand to more than 11 thousand people in transit daily.
“The end of last year was very positive for the airport, and January also recorded good performance, with more than 317 thousand passengers, which represents an increase of 2.5% compared to the same month of the previous year,” said Carrillo.
He recalled that air traffic in Mérida is made up mostly of domestic flights, which represent 90% of operations, while international flights make up 10%.
“Currently, the routes with the greatest demand abroad are Miami, Orlando, and Houston, key airports for connecting with other parts of the world,” he noted.
As part of the recommendations for those traveling on these dates, it is suggested to arrive at least two hours in advance to carry out the documentation process, check in, and pass through security filters without setbacks. Likewise, it is recommended to be attentive to any changes in flight itineraries through their respective airlines.
