The director of the Center for Human Dignity asserted that the persecution operations against the migrant population, especially from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, began before Donald Trump assumed the presidency and ordered the detention and expulsion of illegal aliens. He explained that the operations are carried out by the INM mainly in parks, remote neighborhoods of the city, and low-cost lodgings.
“The luxury hotels where VIP migrants stay are not touched, they only come there to collect their “kickbacks,” they only affect poor migrants, they do not touch the rich; the Law must be equal for everyone,” demanded the activist. He indicated that every week, five to seven trucks with migrants leave the Siglo 21 Immigration Station and are expelled and repatriated to Central America.
On Tuesday morning, Quadratín Chiapas witnessed an operation by the National Institute of Migration in the Bicentennial Park of this city, located about 15 kilometers from the border with Guatemala. Two INM units participated in the operation, guarded by elements of the Municipal Police, State Police, and National Guard.
Four migrants from Guatemala who did not prove their legal stay were taken to one of the vans to be transferred to the Siglo 21 immigration station and later, to be expelled from the country. “We want to leave voluntarily, if they take us they will keep us locked up for several days and we want to return to our homes, we do not want to stay here, we are just waiting for them to send us money since we were assaulted,” explained one of the migrants to the INM agents.
When interviewed, the foreigners said that they traveled from the department of Santa Rosa, a border town with El Salvador to reach the United States; but when crossing into Mexican territory they entered with about 18 migrants of various nationalities on a path to get to this city, where they were assaulted by four people carrying firearms. “They took all our money.
They let us go, but we don’t know what happened to the rest of the people,” they said. “Now we are just waiting for them to send us money so we can buy tickets and return home,” they explained. On social media, migrants have reported the INM operations in different parts of the city, mainly in self-service stores, lodgings, parks, and neighborhoods inhabited by foreigners.
