The Merida City Council presented the “Corazón de Mérida” (Heart of Merida) program, a gastronomic corridor, to strengthen the local economy and promote tourism in the Yucatecan capital.

This project will convert an important section of the Historic Center into a tourist and gastronomic corridor that will extend along 60th Street from 61st to 47th Street.

Starting February 13, this corridor will be closed to vehicular traffic on weekends (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), becoming a 100% pedestrian zone.

Closing hours to vehicular traffic will be from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

In this space, restaurants will place tables outdoors and artisans and vendors of Yucatecan products will be installed, providing visitors and locals with a unique cultural and gastronomic experience.

In a press conference, municipal authorities announced that soon 47th Street will be pedestrianized at night.

Currently, the program covers from 61 to 53 Streets, but now it will be extended to 47th Street.

In this way, it will cover key points such as the Remate Paseo de Montejo, the Santa Ana Market and the new Gastronomic Tourist Corridor of Mérida.

Gastronomic, artisanal and cultural experiences
In addition to the culinary and artisanal offering, Corazón de Mérida will have cultural events in a safe environment for pedestrians.

This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), guaranteeing a wide range of products and services.

There is the possibility that, later on, it will expand to the Gran Parque La Plancha, to offer more options to locals and tourists, promoting a greater economic spillover in the city.

In this new stage, Corazón de Mérida will benefit: 32 restaurants, 11 hotels, 32 artisans, 5 parking lots.
