In an unusual event that occurred in a house in Hunucmá, the presence of a dangerous snake known as the Black Tail or Ekuneil was reported, a creature that, according to Mayan beliefs, is linked to ancestral legends of the region.
This snake, which is distinguished by its length of up to four meters, a skin of gray tones and a forked tail, is not a mythological being, but it does have characteristics that make it a being feared by the local population.
After the sighting of this animal in a local residence was reported, authorities from the Municipal Police of Hunucmá and Civil Protection arrived at the scene to secure the reptile and avoid any risk to the community.
After safely protecting it, the snake was relocated, as it is protocol for this type of incident with uncommon species.
Although the snake did not represent an immediate danger to residents, authorities recommend caution in case of similar sightings, and stress the importance of protecting and relocating these species, which are part of local folklore, and can generate fear due to their unusual characteristics and their mysterious relationship with Mayan legends.
