Section 47 of the Oil Workers’ Union reported that two of the workers were seriously injured after the assault by a group of pirates.
A group of ‘pirates’ raided the Zapp Delta platform of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) in the Campeche Sound, reported Section 47 of the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic (STPRM) on Saturday, February 15.
The ‘pirates’ took the belongings and valuables and beat several workers. Two of them were seriously injured, reported the oil union.
Victor Matías Hernández Colunga, oil leader, and José Antonio Toledo González, general secretary of the union, intervened so that the workers were transferred to Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.
The employees injured and beaten by the criminals were taken to the General Hospital of Pemex for medical examination.
A group of armed men boarded the Zaap Delta oil platform during the night of Friday, February 14 and took control of the facilities that are part of the Ku Maloob Zaap complex.
The group of ‘pirates’ remained on the platform until early Saturday morning. The staff made calls for help during the assault, but received no response.
Once subdued, the oil workers were stripped of their belongings and began to be beaten, according to the version released by the union.
The Ku Maloop Zaap complex generates 40 percent of the 1.68 million barrels of crude oil produced in Mexico per day.
