The installation and first ordinary session of the Municipal Council of Public Security of the City Council of Progreso was held, chaired by Mayor Erik Rihani González.
In his speech, he stressed that the objective of this body is to join forces between the authorities and society to face current challenges, in order to improve the security and well-being of the community.
The mayor expressed his gratitude for the participation of representatives of Progreso’s commercial, tourist, religious, altruistic, sports, and social sectors, pointing out that their concerns and proposals strengthen the council, underlining the importance of paying attention to children and youth.
During the session, citizens proposed various initiatives, such as the creation of neighborhood sports committees to monitor sports spaces, helping children and young people to practice sports, and staying away from vices and bad habits. The activation of declamation, oratory, and writing workshops at the House of Culture was also requested.
Another proposal was the creation of a space dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of people with addictions, as well as strengthening actions to prevent suicide.
Before concluding, the mayor expressed his interest in having a representative of the Judiciary in each session to support the concerns of the citizens.
Also taking part in the session were authorities and representatives of various government agencies, such as the National Guard, the Attorney General’s Office, as well as the State Attorney General’s Office, the Regional Port Captaincies of Progreso and Yucalpetén, among others.
