The port of Progreso will receive a total of 27 cruise ships during the month of February, which are expected to bring with them approximately 70 thousand foreign visitors who will join the more than one million tourists expected to arrive at the port between February and March for Carnival.
In the next 28 days, the deep-sea port of Progreso will receive a total of 27 tourist vessels, which have scheduled their arrival in this municipality for several months now, following the good number of cruise ships that will visit the port.
Given this situation, the port would be the entry point for approximately 70 thousand foreign visitors in the following weeks; therefore, a significant economic spillover is expected for the region because a large percentage of the tourism that enters the municipality ends up visiting different parts of the state, which makes the profit to be divided among several communities.
The Progreso municipal tourism authorities indicated that the arrival of these vessels would add to the entry of more than one million visitors that the port expects during the carnival festivities in February and March, which is preparing the tourism and commercial sector of the municipality to have one of the busiest seasons of the year, with a significant economic spillover in the region.
It is expected that these favorable numbers will help to lift the local economy because it is currently suffering a difficult period due to the entry of the ban on the main species of scale in the region.
Restaurant owners, hoteliers, and businesses near the tourist areas of this municipality said they are prepared to face what they expect to be a huge party throughout the 28 days of February and achieve favorable profits that will mark the beginning of a good season until the end of the Easter holidays.
Members of the tourism sector hope that the cruise ships that will be arriving at the port of Progreso this season will become a positive element for the local economy. It should be noted that the spaces designated for visitors are currently undergoing extensive maintenance work to accommodate both cruise passengers and local and national visitors.
