The City Council of Mérida, through the Animal Protection Unit (UPA) and in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), responded to a citizen report about the discovery of animal remains on public roads, initially identified as a supposed cat inside a supermarket bag.

After going to the scene and carrying out the relevant investigations, the authorities secured the remains for forensic analysis.

The expert report confirmed that the remains correspond to a rabbit, presumably slaughtered for human consumption, ruling out that it was a case of animal cruelty. However, the inappropriate disposal of these remains on public roads constitutes a failure to comply with the rules of hygiene and citizen coexistence.

The Mérida City Council reaffirms its commitment to animal protection and welfare, ensuring that each report is attended to seriously and responsibly. The UPA urges citizens to use official channels to report any situation of animal abuse, either through Ayuntatel 070 or on the social networks of the Environment and Animal Welfare Unit.
