At the crime scene, cries and screams could be heard coming from inside a property.
A shooting shook the tranquility of the mainland of Isla Mujeres on Thursday, February 13th, leaving two people dead and two injured. Residents of the area reported the attack, which mobilized the authorities and emergency services.
The attack occurred around 9:30 a.m., on a plot of land where two houses are located, one made of brick and the other made of thatched roofs. Armed hitmen broke into the place and mercilessly shot at the occupants. In the brick house, two people were injured, while in the thatched roof a man lost his life.
Upon hearing the shots, locals alerted 911, causing the mobilization of patrols and ambulances. Paramedics from the Red Cross arrived immediately to treat the wounded and transfer them to nearby hospitals.
Municipal Police officers cordoned off the area and carried out operations to find those responsible, without success so far. At the scene, the tears and desperation of the victims’ relatives reflected the tragedy.
Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo were present to begin the investigations. Criminal experts collected evidence at the crime scene, while the authorities analyzed possible lines of investigation into this new violent event that shook the area.
