A traffic altercation in downtown Merida led to a violent incident when a driver threatened an operator of the “Va y Ven” public transportation system with a machete.
According to reports, the incident occurred after the driver of a private car stopped in a lane with active traffic to make a purchase, which caused the bus driver to honk the horn.
This incident caused the driver to become upset, and react violently, threatening the bus driver with a machete. The incident was recorded on video and was widely shared on social media, which allowed the authorities to follow up on the case.
The Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) issued a statement confirming the arrest of the person involved, who was identified thanks to the C5i cameras. The individual was detained by security agents after being found in possession of a machete.
The SSP urges citizens to drive responsibly, avoid confrontations, and report incidents to 9-1-1.
