After a man was lynched earlier this week in Tekit, Yucatán, moments of tension were experienced in the San Francisco neighborhood of Umán, when neighbors tried to beat a man suspected of hanging around the park in that area.

According to testimonies, the individual was identified for allegedly having suspicious attitudes near a group of children who were playing there.

Although it was not possible to prove that he was carrying a machete, as some residents of the area claimed, the situation became tense when the neighbors, alarmed by the presence of the subject, tried to take justice into their own hands.

Finally, agents of the municipal police intervened, handcuffed the man, and took him to jail to separate his responsibilities.

The authorities suggested that witnesses and parents of minors go to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to file a formal complaint if there is evidence or indications of any criminal behavior.
