The City Council of Mérida, through the Directorate of Municipal Public Services, reported that the Christmas tree collection campaign has concluded with a positive balance, although some of them continue to arrive at the collection points.
The head of the agency, Jorge Espinosa Atoche, pointed out that, although the period established for collection has already ended, they continue to receive reports of saplings deposited in the Green Points and in the offices of the Directorate of Municipal Public Services, both in the West and East areas.
“Given this, we call on people who still have their tree to take it to these spaces, where it will be channeled for its correct disposal. However, we will still be lifting those found in some collection points such as Xtabay Park,” he noted.
He reported that, until the last cut, it is estimated that approximately 1,400 trees were collected, a figure significantly higher than last year, when about a third of this amount was collected.
“This reflects a greater citizen commitment to the proper management of this waste, preventing it from ending up on public roads and representing a risk to pedestrians and motorists,” he recalled.
The official thanked the citizens for their participation in this initiative, highlighting that the collective effort contributes to keeping the city clean and preventing obstructions on sidewalks and roads. Likewise, he pointed out that in the case of identifying a specimen in an inappropriate place or on the streets, citizens can make a report by contacting the number 924 4000 of the Mérida City Council.
