Two 22-year-old Canadians were arrested in Tulum for their alleged involvement in a crime of rape against a 19-year-old tourist, also from Canada. Their legal status will be known on Thursday, February 27th.

The events occurred last Wednesday, February 19, in a hotel in the municipality of Tulum, Quintana Roo, where both the aggressors and the victim were staying. According to the official report, the young woman was enjoying her vacation with her family, and it was in the pool area where she met the now-detained men, with whom she shared alcoholic beverages.

After a while, the victim began to feel dizzy and, apparently, under the influence of alcohol, was taken by one of the Canadians, Joseph David ‘N’, to the room where the crime was committed along with Matthew ‘N’.

The young woman’s parents, having lost track of her, began to search for her daughter in the hotel until they found her in a delicate state of health with evident signs of mistreatment in the aggressors’ room.

Once the arrest warrant was served, the two foreigners were arrested and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

They were given a precautionary measure of official preventive detention, while their legal situation is yet to be determined by the corresponding authorities February 27.
