The event will take place in Mérida, Yucatán from October 16 to 19, 2025.
The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico announced the venues and dates of ORIGINAL: Encuentro de Arte Tradicional Mexicano 2025, among which Yucatán participates, joining this celebration of indigenous and Afro-Mexican culture and art that promotes its preservation, defense, and fair trade.
The Ministry of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta), the Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs (IYEM), the Ministry of Tourism Development (Sefotur), and the Patronato Cultur will join forces to facilitate Mayan artisans to participate as hosts and receive representatives from other states from October 16 to 19, 2025.
Tijuana, Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Mérida were selected as the cities where artisans from various parts of the country will converge for this 2025 meeting, which for the first time will expand its presence beyond the Los Pinos Cultural Complex in Mexico City, where it has been held since 2021.
ORIGINAL’s main objective is to transform the vision of the work of artisan communities, by promoting dignity and fair trade for the country’s creators, as well as the defense of the collective rights of the communities that create traditional Mexican art.
With this mission, the meeting promoted by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico grows, to strengthen the exhibition and spread knowledge about the work carried out by women and men from the towns of Mexico and that is part of the plural and multicultural identity of the country.
- Guadalajara, Jalisco, from May 29 to June 1.
- Tijuana, Baja California, from October 9 to 12,
- Mérida, Yucatán, from October 16 to 19.
- Mexico City, at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, from November 13 to 16.
In addition, specialized meetings on key topics will be held at Casa Original, also in Mexico City; the Ceramics Meeting, in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and the Dyes Meeting and Natural Fibers Meeting, with venues yet to be defined.
In each entity, the comprehensive ORIGINAL model will be adopted, which includes training, community organization, and the celebration of the Mexican Traditional Art Meeting.
Regarding the participation of artisans who wish to be part of ORIGINAL 2025, the National Call for the Pre-Selection Process is already published on the official pages of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico (www.gob.mx/cultura) and ORIGINAL (original.cultura.gob.mx).
