Alejandra Espadas reported on social media that a man entered her home in the Serapio Rendón neighborhood, Mérida, and sexually harassed her.

The aggressor was in the house for more than three hours, inappropriately touching himself in the yard.

Despite the call to 911, the police car took 20 minutes to arrive, and when it arrived, the subject was no longer there. However, when reviewing the security cameras, it was discovered that the officer did see the aggressor leave the house and did nothing about it.

“I thought he was the owner of the house,” the police justified when seeing the video evidence.

The recordings show that the man prowled around the house from 3:07 AM and entered at 4:22 AM, staying inside until 6:14 AM, just when the patrol car arrived. Even though the officer had visual contact with the suspect, he did not act to stop him.

When the victim called 911 again, the authorities’ response was discouraging: “We can’t do anything because the person has already left,” they told him.

In addition, the police argued that the man should undergo studies to determine his mental state before proceeding legally.

The victim identified the man as “Uriel,” a resident of the same 129th Street in Serapio Rendón, known in the area for his violent behavior and drug use.

This is not the first time that similar situations have occurred in the neighborhood, but neighbors say that no action has ever been taken against him.

The case has generated outrage on social media, and although the victim was forced to delete her post for security reasons, she will file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Yucatan (FGE).

Hours later, according to the SSP, the suspect was located on the streets of the same neighborhood. Since his description matched that of the alleged perpetrator. At the time of the intervention, he reacted violently and tried to attack an officer with a metal rod, for which he was arrested and taken to jail. Later, he was placed at the disposal of the FGE.

Regarding the agent who arrived at the time the man was jumping over the fence and did not arrest him, the corresponding administrative and legal procedures will be applied, said the state police.
