The lack of emergency services in western Yucatán was once again evident this Sunday, March 23, when a family returning from the port of Celestún suffered an accident on the Kinchil-Celestún stretch, right at kilometer 55+500, near the dangerous Bella Flor curve.
The driver, Jesús Benito M. S. (42 years old), lost control of his vehicle when he swerved too far, causing it to cross into the oncoming lane and end up overturned in the undergrowth. Ángel Manuel May Hernández (1 year old) and Yenni Hernández Villalobos were also in the car.
While most of the occupants suffered minor injuries, one woman suffered a possible dislocated shoulder. Medical attention was slow to arrive, as the nearest paramedics, María José Caamal and Odeth Can of the Celestún Escualo Group, had to travel from the port, highlighting the lack of ambulances in the area.
This is the third accident this week on the stretch known as Bella Flor, a point that has become a red flag for drivers. The lack of a rapid response in these cases increases the risk to those injured, raising concerns among residents of Kinchil and nearby communities.
So far, local authorities have not announced any concrete measures to improve emergency services coverage in the region, leaving residents uncertain about future incidents.
