Trump ‘freezes’ tariffs on Mexico on every product included in the USMCA (T.MEC)
Trump highlighted Mexico’s work in combating fentanyl and migration; Sheinbaum described the result of the call as excellent.
President Claudia Sheinbaum and her counterpart from the United States, Donald Trump, held a telephone call this morning due to the 25% tariffs imposed on all Mexican exports, in which they agreed that the country will not pay tariffs on anything that is included in the T-MEC.
“After speaking with the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, we agreed that Mexico will not have to pay tariffs on anything that is included in the T-MEC Agreement,” Trump reported on his social network Truth Social and pointed out that this agreement is until April 2.
The President of the United States said that he made this agreement as “a form of adaptation and out of respect for President Sheinbaum,” whose hard work he highlighted in terms of migration and the fight against fentanyl, for which he thanked her.
“Our relationship has been very good, and we are working hard, together, on the border, both in terms of preventing illegal immigrants from entering the United States and also stopping fentanyl. Thank you to President Sheinbaum for her hard work and cooperation,” he said.
President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she agreed with Donald Trump that the United States will not charge tariffs to Mexico on any goods that are included in the trade agreement they signed with Canada, a measure that will be in effect until April 2, when the US government will announce reciprocal taxes for all countries.
“Many thanks to President Donald Trump. We had an excellent and respectful call in which we agreed that our work and collaboration have yielded unprecedented results within the framework of respect for our sovereignties,” the Mexican president indicated on her X account, formerly Twitter.

Sheinbaum said that her government will continue working with the United States, particularly on migration and security issues, which includes reducing illegal trafficking of fentanyl to the United States, as well as the entry of weapons into Mexico.
“As President Trump mentions, Mexico will not be required to pay tariffs on all products within the T-MEC. This agreement is until April 2, when the United States will announce reciprocal tariffs for all countries,” concluded Claudia Sheinbaum.
