Authorities in Quintana Roo, with the assistance of Interpol, have arrested two American citizens, Paul “N” and Christy Lin “N,” for allegedly defrauding a hotel chain.
The arrests carried out by the Investigative Police attached to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) were confirmed on Wednesday, March 5th. The legal representative of the unnamed hotel chain filed a complaint against the couple on August 8, 2023.
Reports indicate that on November 21, 2021, the couple entered into a contract with the hotel chain to purchase “membership rights,” supposedly granting them benefits such as preferential rates. To secure the contract, Paul “N,” who also holds German nationality, provided a credit card as collateral for the monthly membership charges.
Between August and November 2022, the hotel chain received 13 notifications from the bank, informing them that Paul “N” had disputed the transactions, totaling $116,587 (over 2.4 million Mexican pesos). The FGE of Quintana Roo claims that Paul canceled the transactions fraudulently, causing significant financial damage to the hotel chain.
Christy Lin allegedly shared messages on Facebook explaining how they committed fraud. As a result, a control judge issued an arrest warrant for both Americans. They were apprehended at Cancun International Airport upon arrival from abroad.
