Chicxulub Puerto Fisherman Loses His Life at Sea

Sad news came to the residents of Chicxulub Puerto on March 25th. Social media reported that a well-known fisherman from this district was lost at sea during the early hours of the morning.

According to the information gathered, the man was identified as Ezekiel “N.” He was on a fishing trip aboard the coastal vessel “Nathaly” when he fell into the sea in the early hours of the morning.

Apparently, the missing fisherman and the rest of the crew were asleep when a sudden surge surprised them, causing Ezekiel to fall into the sea. However, his companions could do nothing to help him, as their lives were also in danger because the boat had filled with water.

After managing to free the vessel, the fishermen tried to rescue the man who had fallen into the sea, but it was an impossible task due to the darkness, so they decided to report the incident and return to land.

After the incident went viral, dozens of people, including fishermen, family members, and friends of the victim, gathered at the beach at the intersection of 17th Street and 26th Street, from where at least a dozen boats voluntarily set sail to assist in the search for the missing man, including the “Nathaly.”

The incident occurred about 14 km (9 miles) offshore.

The Navy was also notified, and it was reported that the Fisheries Secretariat, headed by Lila Frías, was already coordinating with the Public Security Secretariat to send a small plane to provide aerial support for the search.

Sadly, shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, it was confirmed that one of the boats participating in the search efforts had found the fisherman dead at sea.

Family members of the deceased remained on the beach awaiting the arrival of the body, although it was unclear whether it would be taken to Chicxulub or another area along the coast.
