On Tuesday, March 4th, Mexico’s Employers’ Confederation (Coparmex) issued an official statement in response to the Trump administration’s tariffs on Mexican imports, which took effect on the same date.
Coparmex expressed deep concern over the potential economic impact of the 25% tariffs on various goods, including fresh produce, cars, car parts, and electronics. The organization emphasized that these tariffs could lead to increased prices for these items in the United States, reducing demand for Mexican exports and negatively affecting Mexico’s manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
Coparmex also highlighted the potential strain on the economic relationship between the United States and Mexico, which has been built on decades of trade cooperation.
The organization called for the Mexican government to take immediate action to mitigate the impact of the tariffs, including exploring new trade partnerships and markets. Coparmex urged the Sheinbaum administration to engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve the trade dispute and protect the interests of Mexican businesses and workers.
In their statement, Coparmex stressed the importance of maintaining a strong and stable economic relationship with the United States while also seeking to diversify Mexico’s trade partners to reduce dependence on the U.S. market.
