Neighbors and business owners of the San Roque Market, located across from the Mérida Cereso (Cereso de Mérida), experienced moments of anguish after a fire broke out there early Sunday morning, March 23.
It was reported that the fire broke out in a space inside the market, causing some damage to the plateau area, where some plastic chairs and lamps were burned. No injuries were reported.
Personnel from the Mérida City Council’s Markets Subdirectorate arrived at the scene.
The incident did not affect the operation of the traditional Tianguis (street market) held next to the market hall, following an inspection by Civil Protection and Firefighters.
The State Investigative Police (PEI) has already begun the investigation and will await an expert report to determine the precise cause of the incident, which resulted in no major damage or injuries.
