SOHO Galleries, located on 60th Street between 43rd and 41st Streets in downtown Mérida, became a meeting place for visual art and music with the exhibition “The Art of Jazz” by transdisciplinary artist Mauricio Gallardo Ponce.

The exhibition, which brought together Yucatecan society and foreign residents, captivated attendees with more than 20 medium-format works that portray everyday life in cities and the essence of jazz musicians.

Inspired by painters such as George Bellows and Edward Hopper, Gallardo Ponce captured urban and nightlife in his pieces, using color as a central element to convey unique emotions and atmospheres. His characters, although lacking defined faces, reflect recognizable identities in the Mexican context.

In addition to the exhibition, attendees enjoyed a musical performance in which Gallardo Ponce played the piano alongside Julia Eme.

The event was attended by Justen Thomas, U.S. Consul to Yucatán, who highlighted the importance of these types of cultural initiatives that foster dialogue between the arts and communities.

Adele Aguirre, director of SOHO Galleries, celebrated the success of the evening, which demonstrated how art can be a bridge to unite people of different nationalities and cultures.
