MOTUL, YUCATAN, March 10, 2025.- A group of citizens arrested a subject and handed him over to the Municipal Police after trying to steal from a property, although he initially managed to escape.
The events occurred on Saturday, March 8th, around 8 at night, on 19th Street between 14th and 16th in the Londres neighborhood, when the alleged thief tried to steal from a house with the number 249-A, owned by J.A.R.C. However, he was caught with the help of the neighbors and handed over to the Municipal Police.
After the neighbors’ complaint, the officers arrived at the scene and transferred the detainee to the public jail, where two onion-type knives were found.
The detainee was identified as José C., 25 years old.
The Municipal Police indicated that the affected party is expected to go to the State Attorney General’s Office to file the corresponding complaint.
Civilians denounce the Municipal Police
However, residents of Motul denounced that the Municipal Police unit, which arrived after the complaint, made no effort to enter the forest in search of the thief. Instead, they limited themselves to asking them to sign a document indicating that they had verified the complaint, which did not happen.
When the civilians demanded that the police officers go searching for the thief, these responded negatively and insulted one of these citizens, which resulted in an official complaint against the member of the Municipal Police.
