The Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs (Iyem) celebrated Artisan Day with the presentation of the Yucatecan Handicraft Certification Seal and the inauguration of the Maní Mayan Embroidery Museum-Store, according to a bulletin.

The event occurred in the atrium of the former convent of San Miguel Arcángel, in Maní. It was attended by artisans, entrepreneurs, representatives, and state and municipal authorities.

During the event, Iyem General Director, Salvador Vitelli Macías presented the seal that certifies the quality and origin of the region’s handicrafts.

The measure seeks to identify artisans and make the production process of the pieces transparent, indicating the technique used, the time invested, and the place of origin. “The government is committed to boosting the artisan market and promoting economic development through culture,” the statement stated.

Likewise, the Maní Mayan Embroidery Museum-Shop was inaugurated, a space to exhibit and sell products made by local embroiderers.

During the event, the importance of the State Registry of Entrepreneurs and Artisans to expand development opportunities was highlighted.

The event brought together 24 mayors from the region, who promote the registry of artisans in their communities, and highlighted the efforts to dignify artisan work in Yucatán.
